Insectotròpics is a performing and visual arts company born in Barcelona in 2011 that is committed to the hybridization of languages and multidisciplinary shows. Made up by Laia Ribas, iEX, Xanu and Maria Thorson, the company has artists who join the Insectotròpic family in each production, thus creating collective concepts that blend various dimensions and perspectives.

Laia Ribas Salvador

Multidisciplinary artist trained in photography and the production of audiovisuals and shows. She began her professional career as a video editor at TVE, where she also worked as an assistant director and director. At the same time, she developed her artistic research, experimenting with the fusion of photography and pictorial techniques and materials. She participated in several group exhibitions that culminated in two individual exhibitions.
Later, she delved into the world of VJ, a discipline that had her travel around the world. She creates and performs live screenings for the music group El Tio Carlos, for whom she also directs music videos for which she has won three awards (Barcelona Visual Sound, Playclip, Musiclip festival). In addition, she has participated in documentaries such as the award-winning Sobre la marxa (2013), and in multimedia shows.
Since the creation of Insectotròpics, she has opened up research into the fusion of different artistic disciplines through technology for the creation of multimedia shows, which she combines with international tours. In 2018, she founded the company Hotaru together with two partners, which is dedicated to the production of events, visuals and cultural projects.

Xavier Martínez (Xanu)

Neo-expressionist language artist bordering on abstraction and Outsider Art. He investigates improvisation, gesture and tracing; elements of his language. Expressive topics, materials and color are other important characteristics of his work.
He has exhibited in different galleries in Barcelona (Untitled BCN, Galeria Miscelänia, Corretgers5) and has participated in various creative festivals. He also works in the field of print creation in a self-published screen printing magazine with the MXJ collective at Taller La Roda in Barcelona.
As a creator of collective and multimedia projects, he is interested in public access to the process as an essential part of the concept. He has been the creator of different performances and pictorial actions in cultural spaces and galleries, such as El Ángel Exterminador (2000).

His latest exhibitions have been in the Eat Art space of the Lluís Coromina Foundation in Banyoles, in the Lluís Coromina Foundation in Barcelona and a group exhibition at the Esther Montoriol Gallery in Barcelona. He has published in various journals in Europe and the United States.
He has won awards such as the First Prize for Emerging Art from the Banco de Sabadell 2018 Foundation, and has been a finalist for the 2016 Ynglada-Guillot International Drawing Prize and the 2017 City of Mataró Painting Biennial.

Maria Thorson Bofarull

She holds a degree in English Philology and a postgraduate degree in Management and Direction of Cultural Companies. Her professional career has almost always been linked to the management and production of cultural events as an independent professional and in collaboration with different cultural management companies.
In 2008 she founded Nomadreams, an association of events and audiovisuals for cultural projects. Since 2011, she has been in charge of the executive production, management and national and international distribution of Insectotròpics. In 2018, she founded Hotaru, a new event and audiovisual company for cultural projects.
She is a member of the APGCC (Association of Professionals in Cultural Management of Catalonia), the Women and Culture Collective, the Collective of Independent Theater Companies, the Collective of Performing Arts Distributors and the Network of Professionals in Performing Arts Production.
