Insectotròpics is a performing and visual arts company born in Barcelona in 2011 that is committed to the hybridization of languages and multidisciplinary shows. Made up by Laia Ribas, iEX, Xanu and Maria Thorson, the company has artists who join the Insectotròpic family in each production, thus creating collective concepts that blend various dimensions and perspectives.
In its shows, Insectotròpics proposes a journey through the deepest and most visceral emotions through its own and experimental language that combines live painting, live cinema, drama, and music. Its staging shows the inner workings of the creative process, so that the audience is a spectator of both the making of and the final result. Over the course of more than 10 years, Insectotròpics has premiered five shows that have allowed them to explore and deepen their language and way of doing things, which is constantly evolving. The company has traveled to more than 20 countries in Europe, Latin America and Asia with its staging.
Insectotròpics brings its universe into other realms, such as events and settings for galas and all kinds of acts for corporations, foundations, entities, etc.

Orpheus (2022)

Orpheus, the world’s greatest musician and poet, is devastated by the death of his beloved Eurydice. With the help of Spiritcom, a virtual reality machine, and accompanied by the power of his music, Orpheus launches himself into Hades determined to bring Eurydice back to life.
This is a journey in which genres flow, from mythological fable to contemporary chronicle, a descent into a world where virtuality generates a new paradigm of confrontation between life and technology. The line between reality and metaverse is dissolving and demanding, in the face of great technological pressure, an urgent ethical review of the power of love, art and new immersive tools to deal with death and mourning.
Insectotròpics continues with the live experimentation of its particular cross-media approach and incorporates unprecedented resources into its trajectory. Through the technique of live cinema, the company explains the secrets of editing with an exposed staging that makes use of resources such as the robotization of cameras, the plastic expression of painting and live digital manipulation. The play juxtaposes audios from audiovisual material found on social media with texts taken from the diary of a member of the company written during a personal experience of mourning. A high-impact show, between performance, live art and concert.

Christmas Carol (2020)

Insectotròpics updates A Christmas Carol, one of Charles Dickens’ most popular works. This story, written in the midst of the Industrial Revolution, portrays an era dominated by economic optimism that anticipated the rampant, ultra-technological capitalism that is shaking our societies.
The play contrasts loneliness, selfishness, overwork and greed with a sense of community and empathy, represented by the Christmas spirit. A spirit that can paradoxically become a mass consumer product.
Christmas Carol is a multidisciplinary show with a hybridization of media and languages, which could be seen in Plaça Catalunya in Barcelona on Christmas 2020. A concept with the seal of Insectotròpics: a cathartic work that combines video art, painting, theater, performance and live music, with a staging that shows the creative process and the techniques used.

The Legend of Burning Man (2017)

The Legend of Burning Man is the story of a man everyone has heard of, but whose name no one knows. A legend for millions of people, capable of igniting the network at the speed of fire and triggering a wave of revolutions in his path. All to try to answer a big question of our time: if we are all on the web, who is the spider?
The concept is based on the life of Mohammed Bouazizi, a Tunisian man who ignited the spark of the Arab Spring revolutions when he set himself on fire. It is a poetic and dreamlike journey, based on real events, where video art, painting, theater, live music and performance merge into an explosive show.
The viewer can move around the stage in 360º, and receives the images uninterruptedly, from all possible angles. Like reality. Or like viral news on the Internet. Different things are seen from every angle, but they change depending on the point of view. The machinery comes into operation, offers partial and biased views. Representations are falsified, images that were not become icons, public opinion and even feelings are manipulated.

Buy me! (2015)

Buy me! It is a large-format concept that was the inaugural show of FiraTàrrega 2015. It reflects on capitalism and the addiction to wanting more. In the words of Zygmut Bauman, “consumer society is based on the promise of satisfying human desires to an extent that no other previous society had been able to achieve. This promise of satisfaction only remains seductive if the desire remains unfulfilled.»
Buy me! It is a reflection on our pursuit of happiness in the consumer society. A complex society where invisible beasts, unexpressed dreams and natural rights are confronted daily. Based on the myth of Pandora, the show shows dissatisfaction as the worst of the evils released from the box.

The Little Galactic Riding Hood (2012)

What if Little Red Riding Hood decided to ignore her mother, allowing herself to be carried away by intuition into the deep forest of her fears? What can happen when we react against what is established? Have you ever accompanied someone on an initiation journey?
Little Galactic Riding Hood is a stage art multimedia show that features the well-known Little Red Riding Hood tale, offering a unique insight into the popular myth. The show brings together three video artists, two painters, a musician and an actress. It can be done both outdoors and indoors, in multipurpose spaces or on stage.
Little Galactic Riding Hood has a children’s adaptation, Little Red Riding Hood’s Incredible Journey, which shows the importance of fighting for dreams and the value of friendship, creativity and imagination. There is the possibility of a later workshop to teach children the stage devices, and they can act as actors, painters or VJ.
